He also outlined the company\u2019s strategic thinking on securing leadership in next-generation technologies through forward-looking R&amp;D.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">The following is an excerpt from the interview.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">A critical threshold\u2014from quantitative growth to qualitative transformation\u2014has arrived. The lithium<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">&#8211;<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">i<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">o<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">n<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\"> battery industry\u2019s \u201cTWh era\u201d (measured in terawatt-hours, signaling a new level of capacity and demand) is no longer a distant beacon but a rising tide already beneath our feet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">In 2025, global demand for power batteries exceeded 1,300 GWh, while the energy storage market entered a period of rapid expansion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">In reality, the industry is not merely stepping into the TWh era today. Leading battery manufacturers have already mapped out capacity plans that push toward the terawatt-hour scale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cCompetition in the TWh era is not about a single company\u2014it is about the resilience of the entire industrial chain,\u201d Wang said. LEAD\u2019s role, he added, is to become the best equipment partner for customers advancing into the TWh era\u2014and ultimately a strategic partner for the industry as a whole.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">An engineer-entrepreneur who has spent more than two decades in equipment manufacturing, Wang\u2019s tone sharpens when discussing industry shifts and quickens when the topic turns to technological innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">A native of Wuxi, he has seen both his personal wealth and the company\u2019s market value surge\u2014at one point placing the firm among China\u2019s \u201chundred-billion-yuan club.\u201d Yet when he speaks about corporate responsibility, his message remains firm: companies must look beyond domestic competition and toward global markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">In his view, growth cannot rely solely on the domestic arena. Expanding globally allows companies to move beyond price competition in a saturated market and seek new engines of growth abroad. It is not merely larger capacity figures, but a fundamental shift in the logic of competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Over the past decade, battery manufacturers competed primarily on scale. The faster a company could build factories and deploy production lines, the greater its advantage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">During that period, LEAD broke through the technological barriers set by Japanese and Korean equipment makers through innovations in winding machine technology. It later expanded to cover the entire production process, offering turnkey line solutions spanning every stage\u2014from slurry preparation to module and PACK assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">This capability established the company\u2019s first competitive moat: full-value-chain <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cturnkey line delivery.\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cIn the non-standard automation sector, turnkey engineering significantly strengthens customer stickiness. It\u2019s a threshold that single-equipment suppliers find difficult to cross,\u201d Wang recalled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Today, the TWh era is presenting battery manufacturers with a new set of challenges\u2014simultaneously in scale, efficiency and quality. Companies must achieve major leaps in capacity under constraints of limited space and labor, a requirement that goes beyond simply replicating production lines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cWhat we deliver today,\u201d Wang said, \u201cis no longer just advanced production lines, but complete \u2018TWh super factories\u2019\u2014facilities that can begin operations immediately, ramp up smoothly and continuously create value.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Behind this lies LEAD\u2019s effort to resolve manufacturing\u2019s so-called <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cimpossible triangle\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\"> of scale, efficiency and quality.<\/span> <span data-font-family=\"default\">Wang\u2019s answer is <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">extreme manufacturing<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u2014a fundamental shift from expanding physical space to harnessing data intelligence.<\/span> <span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cWhoever completes this transformation first will gain the initiative in the TWh era,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">He breaks the transformation into three pillars:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">Data-driven manufacturing<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\"> \u2013 breaking down data silos across the factory to form an integrated data pool that is visible, analyzable and controllable, providing the foundation for sound decision-making.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">AI empowerment<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\"> \u2013 identifying defects invisible to the human eye and calculating optimal processes beyond the limits of human experience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">Flexible automation<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\"> \u2013 enabling production lines to \u201cthink\u201d and adapt, allowing multi-product manufacturing on shared lines and changeovers in seconds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Efficiency gains, for instance, are increasingly driven by digital twin technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cBefore the physical factory even begins construction, we build an identical \u2018virtual factory\u2019 for the customer,\u201d Wang explained. Equipment installation, line integration and process optimization can all be completed in this virtual environment in advance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">The result is tangible: equipment delivery efficiency can increase by up to 50%, allowing customers to bring factories online months earlier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Once the physical plant is operational, the virtual factory becomes its \u201cAI brain,\u201d continuously synchronizing and analyzing real-time data to optimize production performance\u2014ultimately raising overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) by as much as 35%.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"From_%E2%80%9CTurnkey_Delivery%E2%80%9D_to_%E2%80%9CDefining_the_Next_Generation%E2%80%9D\"><\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">From \u201cTurnkey Delivery\u201d to \u201cDefining the Next Generation\u201d<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Deep collaboration with leading customers forms LEAD\u2019s second competitive barrier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Wang revealed that LEAD has established joint R&amp;D mechanisms with the world\u2019s top battery manufacturers. From the very first blueprint of a gigafactory, the company works alongside customers to define processes and co-develop innovations. This level of integration enables LEAD\u2019s equipment to align precisely with evolving market demands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Scale and supply chain advantages constitute the third barrier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cLeveraging our large delivery volumes, we hold strong bargaining power across the supply chain, as well as advantages in in-house development of key components and cost control,\u201d Wang said. This allows LEAD not only to navigate intense market competition but also to reinvest cost efficiencies into further technological development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Wang summarized the company\u2019s ability to sustain its leadership in three areas: the scalability of its <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">platform-based strategy<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\">, a <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">high-intensity and continuous R&amp;D system<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\">, and <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">localized global service capabilities<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">He described the company\u2019s R&amp;D approach as a form of \u201csaturation attack.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cWe are not chasing technology\u2014we are defining the next generation of it,\u201d Wang said. \u201cWhether in solid-state battery equipment or composite current collector equipment, we position ourselves early to secure the technological high ground.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Taking solid-state batteries as an example, Wang noted that the key manufacturing processes and equipment required for all-solid-state batteries differ significantly from those used for conventional liquid-electrolyte batteries\u2014areas that had previously not been explored within the lithium<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">&#8211;<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">i<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">o<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">n<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\"> battery industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">From an equipment perspective, several factors will determine the successful industrialization of solid-state batteries: resolving manufacturing challenges associated with <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">solid\u2013solid interface contact<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\">, improving equipment efficiency; advancing the maturity and localization of dedicated manufacturing equipment; enabling <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">GWh-scale mass production with high yield rates<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\">; achieving high levels of <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">process integration and automation<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\">; and ultimately ensuring <\/span><b><span data-font-family=\"default\">cost control under large-scale production<\/span><\/b><span data-font-family=\"default\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cTo address this, we are building on our experience in high-precision manufacturing from the lithium<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">&#8211;<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">i<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">o<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">n<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\"> battery sector while actively introducing cross-industry technologies and assembling multidisciplinary teams,\u201d Wang told <\/span><i><span data-font-family=\"default\">21st Century Business Herald<\/span><\/i><span data-font-family=\"default\">. \u201cThis allows us to further upgrade both precision and processes to fully meet the industrialization requirements of solid-state batteries.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Securing_a_Foothold_in_the_High-End_Market\"><\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\">Securing a Foothold in the High-End Market<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">One unavoidable reality is that the new energy sector is currently facing structural overcapacity, with price wars at times becoming the industry norm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Wang has called on industry peers to abandon unproductive internal competition\u2014a view that has sparked widespread discussion within the sector.<\/span> <span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cWhat we mean by rejecting ineffective \u2018involution\u2019 is not avoiding competition,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is rejecting destructive low-price competition and instead competing on value.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">How, then, can companies maintain market share without engaging in price wars?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Wang outlined three approaches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">First, replace single-price competition with TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\"> Customers increasingly focus not only on equipment purchase prices but also on yield rates, utilization, and energy consumption across the production line.\u201cLEAD\u2019s equipment may carry a slightly higher upfront price,\u201d Wang said, \u201cbut technological innovation allows customers to achieve substantial cost reductions and efficiency gains in production. The savings generated during manufacturing far exceed the price difference in equipment procurement. That is the essence of value-based competition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Second, differentiate to escape homogenized competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\"> Rather than competing in low-end capacity in crowded markets, LEAD focuses on securing high-end orders with higher technical barriers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">According to Wang, sectors such as solid-state batteries, large cylindrical cells, and high-capacity energy storage batteries require advanced technology and therefore do not lend themselves to low-level price competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cBy positioning ourselves early in these fields, we avoid price wars while securing a strategic foothold in future markets,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Third, expand through globalization to unlock incremental growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\"> Overseas markets tend to place greater emphasis on technological reliability and delivery capability, rather than simply the lowest price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cOur overseas expansion has already begun to show results,\u201d Wang said. \u201cA broad international network allows us to secure higher-quality orders, helping us move beyond domestic price competition and find new growth opportunities in global markets.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">According to the company\u2019s financial report, LEAD generated RMB 1.154 billion<\/span> <span data-font-family=\"default\">(approximately USD 168.5 million)<\/span><span data-font-family=\"default\"> in overseas revenue in the first half of 2025, continuing its year-on-year growth. Gross margins also improved to 40.27 percent, higher than the company\u2019s overall margin level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Meanwhile, LEAD is actively leading and participating in the development of both national and international industry standards, promoting the standardization and modularization of equipment manufacturing. The effort aims to phase out outdated low-end capacity and foster a healthier market environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">Wang also called for stronger respect for intellectual property as companies expand globally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">\u201cOnly by protecting innovation can the industry shift from competing on price to competing on technology,\u201d he said. \u201cWe will firmly defend intellectual property rights, combat imitation, and guide the industry back to healthy, technology-driven competition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-font-family=\"default\">He added that LEAD advocates working alongside upstream and downstream partners\u2014as well as industry peers\u2014to explore new sectors such as energy storage and hydrogen energy.
